This is King Louie, my male jumbo sized Purple Pincher Hermit crab! He is the largest out of the 22 total hermit crabs i own.
Personality wise, he is a total gentle giant! He's super friendly, active, and -- at times very "crabby", haha! On a serious note, i can hold him for hours and he will hardly even pinch. If anything, it's his powerful leg points that will scratch the heck out of your hands and arms. Oh and did i mention he LOVES using a hamster wheel? Because he will use that thing for hours.
No, i did not purchase him at a local pet store, i specifically ordered this guy. Asking for the "largest and most active one you got", and boy did they deliver! haha! With that being said though, both our local Petco, and Petsmart have made him a lowkey star when i bring him in! Everyone seems to have him on their social media apps as they simply never have seen a hermit crab his size before. Following up to that, Louie has somewhat become a reference point to new customers who are considering buying hermit crabs (often for their kids, ugh). The employees will pull up a picture of Louie and show them, explaining that hermit crabs, with the proper care, can last up to 40 years and grow to become soft ball sized. These customers often reply with "Oh wow. I had no Idea!... perhaps we shouldn't get those then." It's a sweet and sour thing for me because on the bad side, hermits who would be likely getting adopted, no longer have a chance to go home with someone. But on the other hand, ---maaaaybe that home wasn't the best for them to begin with. Thus allowing them to sit around longer for the chance to get an actual GOOD home to be sold off to.
