Just for fun, I tried to figure out if your chessboard is correctly orientated.
Some assumptions has to be made: the black pawns in the background is the black's side, and the camera is from the white's side.
This is how I've understood the grid to look. A slight black edge can be seen above the right wing, which I assume is the side of the board:

By this analyse, I've come to the conclusion that the corner behind the griffon is black, which means that both players has the black corner on their left side and white corner on their right side, which is the correct orientation of the board. Good work getting that right :)

You're about spot on in your grid, i went back into the old photoshop file and luckily it still saved the cropped out portion of the board.
unfortunately it didn't save the actual grid itself (i suspect it was overlaid at some point and merged down), but as you can see:
