Yup, this is where I do some of those things I like doing oh so much.

Well it depends a lot on what kind of music you want to tackle with. I can say off hand that Ibanez S Prestige is a great guitar. It handles rock and those low metal tones very well but also delivers a very nice clean (when not distorted) jazzy blues tone. Though it comes with a floyd rose tremolo bridge which I just don't care for but that's just my opinion. Kind of makes it a bitch to tune especially if you want to fool around with different tunings.
I say this because before I got my new guitar it was between that guitar and my ESP PB 401. Since I was looking for a guitar that I could do my metal stuff and be able to explore others sounds to work on jazz and blues whatever else. Both guitars are very versatile in terms of the tone you can get out but I liked the pickups on the ESP better, delivered a wider range and had a sexier looking body in my opinion. And it was about 500 bucks cheaper.
Though if you were to go with another ESP model they usually have EMG pickups in them which are great for hard rock/metal but not as smooth sounding for say classic or blues they still sound good though just not as good as others.
As for Fenders they're nice but really you only get the right tone for a blues, jazz and classic rock sound if you want something with more power/attack for heavier stuff I'd stay away.
And for PRS guitars I've heard good things but I haven't played many of them so I don't really know.
Hope that helps somewhat.
I'm actually wanting to get a hollow-body electric myself now.

My hollow body was Ibanez Artcore, it had a good sound, but not soo good on the heavy distortion I don't think.
I'm thinking to stick with the Ibanez S... I'm not planning on doing any kind of metal that's too heavy, I'm a textural guitarist ... well I enjoy playing that style the most at least.
