Another iphone image taken from the same trail as the previous, I had to stop a few times and just listen to the gusts of hot wind which I could hear blowing over the mountains long before they got to me, and also watch the shadows of clouds rolling over the countryside. It was lonely up there.

Actually the loneliness was a good thing, when exploring nature it's much better when you get as far away from everything as possible.
However, the only lonely-in-comparison part was the lack of large wildlife. In woods and such, even if you don't see them, you're surrounded by deer, raccoons, foxes, tons of avians, other critters. Out there in this desert, there is really only lizards and the occasional bird of prey.
The loneliness of the locale is part of what makes it beautiful. :)
