I figured if everyone else can defy death by being able to remove and attach their limbs at will, then why not give her shinigami eyes and a job as a 'half shinigami' - one who can see when people are going to die (a la Misa in death Note and Michiru in Zombie Loan), and she can do a little soul-reaping. ^^
