That is absolutely not true at all, and your source is very very wrong. The dogs love to run and if they're no longer interested in intense races like the Iditarod, they'll be used for hobby sledding or smaller races. Everyone involved in that race loves the dogs and the dogs are always the priority, very well treated for all their lives.
