This is a series of quick color studies I did today for
abakan commission. These are not intended to be refined finished illustrations but instead they serve a couple functions.
1. They help verify between me and the client what the final camo pattern will be on the plane, and what special features or embellishments they may have.
2. It has given me a chance to determine what are the colors I will need to recreate the Luftwaffe color schemes before I get to the final piece, so I don't have to be experimenting on the final working surfaces.
3. If I am serious about pursuing a career as doing aviation art doing color studies like this are a essential skill to have.
All and all not a bad three hours spent. Medium is color pencil and marker on bristol board.

If I'm not mistaken, the occasional bright coloring or odd markings were up to the discretion of the pilot. Generally to send the message of "Hey, I'm a bad ass" both to the enemy, and to his fellow pilots. lol
Honestly, this is also my favorite German aircraft of WW2, tho I prefer the D or F models, tho for pure looks, none of them can beat the V1 prototype with the streamlined engine cowling.
