Here’s how I picture the story behind this:
When they were feed from the underground the monarchy was dissolved, with Asgore using the majority of the royal treasury to help monster get more acclimated to the surface through purchasing homes for them. Because of this they now live like any other lower-middle class family. Recently they have been having money problems, so Asriel goes job hunting. The highest paying job she can find is a job at the local Hooters, which Asriel very reluctantly accepts. It’s been 3 months since then with Asriel for the most part having gotten used to it, although she still doesn’t like it. The fact that she has slowly been starting to enjoy men staring at her has only increased her discomfort.
