I would assume it depends on a LOOOOOOT of factors. Including specific materials lenses made form, sensor matrix somposition and arrangement, everything, essentially. Maybe even weather. Likely, the lens iris and shutter, too. And maybe shutter speed and aperture. And gremlins, of course. No electronics is complete without a crew of those bastards :)
What's funny, my own eyes give 6-rayed lights, too. Or is it my glasses -- I forgot :)
And what's even funnier... In the campaign world I GM in, Sun is six-rayed, though it is unrelated.

Well I have this right off hand. They are street lights... I need to find a nice picture of the sun for a more accurate depiction.
