I take one "vacation" a year. (Fur Cons don't count. That's like going to a job site.) This year we went down to Bristol, Tennessee for the NASCAR Sharpie 500.
We didn't just do the Nationwide and Sprint cup races while we were away for four days. We also visited Natural Bridge in Virginia and Carnifex Ferry Battlefield in West (by God) Virginia. Silaria took lots of pictures at those locations; I didn't.
This photo was taken with the 3Mp camera on my Blackberry Storm.
I was at Bristol baby! Whoo hoo!! Fastest half mile in the US!
(The redneck will dissipate completely in a few days. Please be patient and keep the flannel, John Deere ball caps and Budweiser beer away.)
Enjoy!

yeah...I still like watching the NASCAR races at the road courses than at the ovals...I think they should switch to road racing. I mean, why not go to Laguna Seca or Road America or Road Atlanta? There's a lot of old road racers in NASCAR nowadays, It makes things interesting...all the old oval track racers would have to change their tactics.
I get season passes every year for Mid-Ohio, so I get to see 14 turns that go left and right. http://www.midohio.com/Fan-Guide/Map-of-Facility
This is what happened the last time a NASCAR driver attempted to make a right turn

NASCAR has some pretty wild crashes. (I mean the Aaron's Lucky dog car crash was insane, as was the one that tore open the driver's compartment and the driver almost got nailed), but some of the scariest crashes I've ever seen have been in road racing. I mean just last year, someone snapped an axel and nearly took out one of the LMP Audi's....then there was the wreck at the beginning of the 24 Hours of Lemans were the dude got punted into the wall. And the CLK-GTR flipping 5 times during a 24 Hours of Lemans)
I have to agree and disagree with ya.
Short tracks, Bristol and Martinsville, and both road races are my least favorite of the NASCAR venues. Richmond and Dover, while considered short tracks also, aren't nearly as bad.
Both races at Bristol I sat through were dull. Now that we have the COT, the short track races are less rubbing and bumping.
But...we go to one race a year and I can say that I've been to Bristol to watch a race.
Thanks for the comment though. :)

I'd have far more respect for NASCAR if it was actually relevant to today's automotive technology. A lot came out of it in the hay day of the '50s and '60s. But no car made any more has a carburetor and road cars certainly aren't tube framed. I also don't know of any Camerys or Impalas or Fusions with rear wheel drive. I really wish it was something more like the Australian V8 Super Cars series.
Oh yeah, and they need to turn right more.

actually, most of that racing technology comes from road racing. Tires would be about the only thing you could test in oval racing, but that's only turning in one direction. You need to have sufficient braking, turning and stuffs. (example: when's the last time you saw a brake explode in a NASCAR race? Happened to Team Corvette one year at Sebring)
Back in the day a lot of engine and aerodynamics came out of NASCAR...back when the manufactures would build the minimum allowable street cars to qualify for racing. Things like the Hemi engine, cross plane intakes, etc all in the name of winning on Sunday and selling on Monday, it just isn't the same way now. ALMS is great, but it just doesn't get the attention of NASCAR.
I've been to Texas and Martensville (sp?). I still have yet to pay good ol Bristol a visit though. I could go to the Kansas City track but it's on the Kansas side of the city (which was a fucking stupid idea in the first place because the fields and theme parks are on the other side of the town in Missouri) and it's a bit of a drive to any tracks for me. Glad you got to enjoy the race. Now tell me did you see anyone holding a sign asking women to show there boobs?
