Final log from http://www.cflar.org/casinonight/kittylog10.html :
"Dear log,
I had this wild dream that I was surfing, and doing crazy aerials and shooting barrels. Then there was this crowd around me cheering, but I couldn't hear them over the surf. It was really strange, but I was totally going all out! And when it was over, I had won a huge contest and was so happy!
It would be hard to keep my siblings from pulling at my lei--but at least I'd always have the memory!
The Casino Night Party is almost here! You gotta be there, it's going to be a blast!
-K. Slider >^_^<"
It was hard to figure out a 'send off' type image for the logs, and we had others in mind, but I think this one was the right choice. It was one of the later drawings that I'd made after learning about the importance of leis in surfer culture.
Apparently, wearing a lei is supposed to signify remembering a past surfer, particularly one lost to the waves. There's a ceremony that I read about that involved surfers wearing leis and paddling out to a specific spot in the water and laying out the leis in a ring as a kind of ceremony of remembrance. It really was a neat look into the spiritual side of surf culture.
Of course, wearing it to commemorate winning a contest is perfectly fine too ;) Sort of a token of memory from past champions, perhaps.
On another note, I've been told that drawings and renditions of Kitty are more than welcome by the folks at CFAR :) Let me know if you guys make any sketches or art pieces with this little guy in mind!
