A humaniform robot designed by robotic manufacturer Robocraft, the Robocraft LaborMaster 640 PRO is a mid-range model designed and programmed for manual labor in environments that require interfacing with humanoid customers. Adopting the one head, one torso, two arms and two legs form proved inefficient for multitasking or labor (as more arms would increase workload potential, and more legs would improve stability and performance), however in places where there is not enough room for multi-limb robots or where customers would prefer interfacing with a more humanoid model, the LaborMaster 600 series remains a popular choice for the independent contractor or small business owner. The design of the LM-640 features primarily an extra-large chassis that provides plenty of space for internal components and an advanced gyro for enhanced stability, resulting in incredible performance potential when maneuvering heavy objects, while the PRO version introduces a customizable interface that can be modified without voiding the model's warranty (except in cases where the model is used for illegal purposes or becomes involved in a legal proceedings as evidence).
The particular model owned (technically stolen) and operated (simplistically adopted) by the alien freelancers Wok and Law, was originally a concierge, porter and delivery robot for a middle-class beach resort on a luxury travel world. After the resort was destroyed following the uprising of ocean dwelling, flesh-seeking crustaceans, the robot was left alone to tend to the resort's remains until the arrival of Wok, who intended to celebrate his parole from the Galactic Penitentiary. Having arrived before representatives of the owners of the ill-fated resort could assess damages, Wok decided to take his celebrations elsewhere, taking with him some salvaged snacks and alcoholic beverages, as well as the lone robotic survivor.
Since having had its interface modified with the introduction of an alternative Baseline Processing Unit (BPU) that regulates function and purpose, and an Artificial Sapience Unit (ASU) produced by Amazing CyberSects Systems who specialize in creating multi-layered contextual response algorithms that provide unique personalities to robots using compatible software, the robot since named Tek has a personality, and fully demonstrates emulated emotions while being interfaced.
Tek's current programming is to provide routine and individualized services to its two operators (Wok and Law), and react amiably to all individuals designated as friendly. With entities designated as harmful, Tek will first identify the danger to surrounding friendly targets, before running situational defensive or offensive protocols. Among its routine services, Tek handles advanced and cybernetic spaceship maintenance, cooking, cleaning, laundry and bartending, along with providing physical and combat training. Occasionally used for more intimate purposes, Tek is receptive and completely at ease with all positions of responsibility he fulfills.
