This little fellow was spotted earlier today-well, now yesterday!-on a short break at my new job. He was scrambling through a shrubbery near a spot a coworker and I sit at and we (Mantis and I) happened to notice one another. I wiggled my finger at it teasingly and it waggled its arms back, and I went and sat down. Lo and behold, this bugger made a beeline for where I went, sort of sized up the distance and LEPT onto my coworker's shoe, up her pantleg and then onto my hand when I held it out. It then proceeded to scramble all over me as if investigating my arms and shoulders. Eventually I coaxed it back onto the bushes, and sat back down, only to notice it had started towards us AGAIN. So I snapped a couple of pictures! I find that praying mantises tend to make good photography subjects; they aren't shy or skiddish like most bugs. If anything, they seem very curious about humans, if not downright tame!
Seemed liek a fun story and, it posed so patiently I figured I might as well share a visual in the process! :D

Fairly large hotel in Omaha, NE. I go outside for my breaks, I get so tired of the recycled air. And lo and behold, one of these guys was actually chilling on a bench on the sidewalk outside. Was at the grocer yesterday, too, and saw four or five of them on light poles in the parking lot. I'll have to start snapping pictures.

*erfs* sorry. I had just woke up and was suffering from "bad-mood-induced-by-lack-of-caffeine" syndrome x.x;; So I might have been snippy. I think what set me off the most was the ascii face, because sometimes I read into those in ways I shouldn't x_X Sorry if it seemed like I was jumping down your throat. Ways I've been treated in the past have made me quick to retaliate to what seems like insults :c
Mantids are an insect I tend to enjoy coming across. Can't say I've ever seen any seriously curious ones like you found here, but I can't say I've had any bad experiences with them either! Even gotten some to come into my house before.. an I would beat the -snot- out of the cats if they got close to it, cause I wanted to save 'em! Finally coax them onto a small enough object, or my hand if they're willing, an carefully take them outside. (careful mostly because if you move too much they decide to go somewhere else, an I wanted it outdoors instead of back inside!)
I used to see several of them around my area (Brazil, Indiana), but lately I'm lucky to spot -one-. :P
