That is true he can hear and smell better (perfect for chasing or searching people) .
He can even run faster too but he can't drive anymore with paws and he can't really arrest anyone as a dog and he can't hold his weapons.
Plus I think the other officers might tease him or make jokes. I'm just kidding though I like looking at the pros and cons. Can you imagine meeting with all the dog officers? xD

Personally, I think it's just a case of either accidental misleading or false advertisement in the promotional posters for said proposed promotion.
To be fair, it did say, "Become a key member of the task force. It has lower pay, but you'll receive free housing, free meals, free specialized training, and extra belly rubs while off duty"

Haha you know I think I would actually believe that. Sounds pretty funny yet interesting. I'm sure everyone would see free housing and food and could ignore the belly rubs part even if that sounded suspicious xD
