That's like asking why Captain Falcon has a move called "Falcon Punch".

no...but he's a bounty hunter. catching the bad guys much like a falcon would catch it's prey.

Exactly, but that's the link between his "job" and the attacks he has, and not his species, thus he's still a human being with an attack called "Falcon Punch".

So now you look at Yoshi. When he uses this Final Smash, he breathes fire. Sure, it's very dragon-like, but it doesn't necessarily mean he's of dragon-kind.

but what if Yoshi had Dragon blood in his vains somehow?

I'm not going to deny that there maybe a slim possibility that there IS some dragon in him, but even if there is, the fire-breathing trait is the only comparison, as there is just nothing else that matches between the two, thus I can't bring myself to say he is and that he's more of a dinosaur.

Of course this debate is easily settled by saying he's a reptile, but I won't let someone change my thoughts about what the Yoshi species is supposed to resemble.

That was actually added by the artist herself, but I kept it there as reference to the fact Yoshi is supposed to be cute, not.. well, you get the idea.

Awww, but dragons are awesome too. It's so obvious that Yoshies are dinosaurs, I mean just look at Super Mario World and even the cartoon series.

Funny you say that, I knew someone who thought Dragons existed and weren't mythical. What was his argument? "There is no evidence suggesting they did not exist", or something similar.

That's true. With a technicality, you can pretty much prove or disprove anything.

I know what you mean, though I'd like to make things easier by thinking that Dragons just don't exist, period, and will like to leave it as that until someone happens to find such evidence.

I'd much rather trust actual game content. Super Smash Brothers on the N64 call him a dinosaur.

Hmm, well, I see the whole "dragon" thing as just another one of Yoshi's power-ups. Just an ability. Wasn't 'Yoshi's Island' actually "Dinosaur Island' in Super Mario World, anyway? I'd think that Rexes are closer to dragons than Yoshis are.
