lol, Gizmo is a total ham. He smiles in just about every picture I have of him.

Just out of curiosity, what state are you in? I know that many states, mine included, are very strict about what animals you may and may not have as pets. I read the note on your blog about foxes not being good pets and all that. Made me happy that you posted that. I work at a zoo, so I talk about stuff like that all the time.
Gizmo is obviously very well cared for and happy. And that is the most important thing to me!

Yep. And Colorado is the opposite. The DOW restricts just about anything and everything you can think of except for a couple ridiculous animals that no one should have as a pet (a red kangaroo, for example).

"Fox that's about as dangerous as a small dog?"

"No way! We can't trust people to have those."

"Asian Leopard Cat that's basically a high-energy housecat with special diet needs?"

"Someone's hamster might get eaten."

"What about a Red Kangaroo that could probably kick them through the wall?"

"I see no problem with letting people have those."


I think the winner for restrictive laws has to be California, though. They won't even let you have ferrets there!

No ferrets? Now that's a little excessive!
BTW, welcome to FA! I think you'll be very popular here. I recommend looking up  foxfeather. She owns exotics. She has fennecs, African crows and a pair of, I think, genets.

its true on the no ferrets. though the loophole of it is that its illegal to buy/sell them here :) so we can OWN them, but not produce them for sales within the state XD

Yeah. This particular color morph is called "Cross Fox". If you google image search it, you'll see there are some really, really pretty animals out there.

What I love with Gizmo is that his patches of color are so distinct in where they start and stop--he almost looks painted.

Yeah, I have read quite a bit about fox colors. He really does look painted! ^_^

I'm not sure what you mean by "ranch fox". That's not a specific color pattern that I'm aware of.

i was recently told 'ranch' is another pattern/coloring similar to 'cross' fox colorings. haven't seen them myself, so not sure. :( (was ona fox adoption site i looked at a few times in the past while debating such a pet)
