Honestly? There probably isn't.
The temptation to say "It's his own fault" may be strong, but with me coming from family with alcoholics on *all* sides, I know it really isn't. Not entirely. One way or another, you're going to wind up addicted to something. In my case, it's food. *shrugs*
So yeah. Being honest in asking for something to help take the edge off is probably the best policy.
