Interrogations, deal-making, those can go really easily when there's a big bat captain at the ready to devour the other party should things go bad. But sometimes, those sort of exchanges go more smoothly when the captain isn't there. Makes the other party more relaxed, maybe even a little cocky. Makes them think they can get away with more. But the captain isn't hardly so out of the picture as they think. If things go sideways, she doesn't like how the deal's sounding, or Jane gives the signal, all she's gotta do is reach up and pull down the handle above her, and open wide. One gulp later, the deal's rejected in the most definitive way both captain and first mate know.

Oh and plus, she can always run her own interrogation down below, too. Nothing gets a crewmember's mouth running like spending some close time with the captain while she devours other people who try to pull a fast one on her!
