Part 3
Yoshster’s secret hut was surrounded by the three strange ufos. Out of each emerged a creepy, purple, mushroom-like creature with red eyes, pincer-like hands and large mouths with four pointed teeth in them. They were an alien race, known as the Shroobs, and their desire was nothing short of the absolute conquest of the Mushroom Kingdom.
Speaking to one another in their alien language, the Shroobs conversed as they looked over the cabin. Then curiously, they approached the front door and peeked in, spotting Yoshster as he worked the gobble down the last of his stolen cookies. “Cookies are best when there’s a lot of them,” cheered Yoshster feeling no shame in what he was doing. “Especially when they are all for me.”
Seeing the Yoshi scarf down one cookie after another made the Shroobs break out in a cold sweat. “Y-Y-Yoob,” one of them spoke through trembling lips.
“I-I had no idea this planet had them, as well,” the second alien whispered in his native tongue. “And there are probably more around.”
“We need to warn the rest of the attack force,” the third suggested as he backed away to put as much distance from the green dino as he could. “Before they all end up getting devoured.” He kept taking steps back till the back of his foot hit a rock and he stumbled about. His two allies watched silently and prayed he wouldn’t cause a commotion to alert the Yoshi to their presence. Trying to steady himself as he walked backwards and forwards, he managed to succeed, only to hit the same rock with the front of his foot and fall forward, colliding with the others and cause all three to spill into the cabin.
“Idiot!”
“I tripped. It was an accident.”
“Next time don’t drag us down with you.”
As they struggled against one another to get back to their feet, they suddenly realized where they had fallen and that the Yoshi was staring at them, unsure what they were saying in their alien dialect.
“Yoob!” they cried and scrambled as quickly as they could away. They managed to get on their feet and reach the doorway, but they did so at the same time and got stuck. They pushed and shoved at one another as they tried to get through first. Yoshster just stared, mildly amused at their antics as he munched on another cookie. After a bit of roughhousing they managed to finally get through and take shelter at their spacecrafts, panting and gasping for air. Looking back at the cabin, they waited, expecting the dino to burst out at any moment, but after a minute passed and nothing happened they grew even more confused.
“What’s going on?” one asked. “That was a Yoob, wasn’t it? Those things devour anything that moves without a second thought.”
“I don’t know,” another replied. “This world is similar to our own, but at the same time very different. Perhaps even the Yoobs aren’t as threatening as they once were on our planet.”
“If that is the case, then perhaps we should bring this one back to Princess Shroob,” the third suggested. “It could prove a valuable specimen.”
“Did seeing that Yoob make you lose our mind?!?” questioned the first one again. “It was all that could be done to wipe out the Yoobs before they devoured us along with the rest of our planet. Do you really want to incur their wrath again?”
“If it isn’t like the Yoobs on our planet then it probably won’t be as dangerous,” the third one pointed out. “And if we can bring it back to Princess Shroob, we might get rewarded. The R&D department were working on a device to control the Yoobs.”
“You mean Project Sunnycide?” the second one asked. “That was mothballed after the decision came to eliminate the Yoobs.”
“And this could be the perfect opportunity to get it up and running again,” the third one stated. “If the Yoobs here don’t devour everything in sight like the ones on our planet do, then there is no harm in at least capturing it.”
“What makes you think it isn’t dangerous?” questioned the first Shroob.
“It didn’t devour us when it had the chance to,” reminded the third Shroob. The other two looked at one another and knew that was very undeniable. Nodding, they all agreed to capture it. The dread of being eaten subsided and their normally devious nature returned. Grabbing their ray guns, they chuckled and entered the cabin once more.
“You guys again?” questioned Yoshster as he ate the last of his cookies. “Are you the weirdos that Yoshi was going on about? You don’t look very dangerous so I’ll let you off with a warning. Forget about this place or that you saw me eating all those cookies and I’ll let you go.” The Shroobs looked at one another then back at the Yoshi. They said some stuff he couldn’t understand and then laughed. Yoshster may not have spoke Shroobinese, but he did understand when he was being laughed at. “Hey! You guys want a knuckle sandwich!?!”
Seeing the Yoshi shouting at them angrily and shake his fist didn’t scare the Shroobs one bit. If anything, it encouraged them to laugh more, making the green Yoshi’s face turn red. Stomping over to the purple aliens, Yoshster planned to pummel them, but the Shroobs aimed their ray guns at him and he stopped in his tracks.
“W-What are those?” he asked with a bit of fear in his voice. One fired a shot at his feet and made Yoshster jump. Feeling the force of the blast’s impact on the ground and the small crater it made there told him all he needed to know. These guys really were dangerous. “L-Look,” Yoshster said fearfully. “I don’t want any trouble. Just take the cabin. I’ll just show myself out.” Taking a few steps to walk around them, another blast was fired to stop Yoshter from moving forward.
“You are coming with us,” one of the Shroobs said and gestured Yoshster over to them. Yoshster might not have been able to understand their language, but he could pick up on the context of the situation and knew just how much trouble he was in for. In fear-filled panic, Yoshster ran for his life towards the entrance to the cabin. The Shroobs fired at him again, but this time it wasn’t warning shots. They were determined to capture him and were willing to do so forcefully if he wasn’t going to come of his own volition.
Yoshster proved that, despite his doughy gut, he still possessed the agility of a Yoshi and managed to avoid their attacks as he rushed to the cabin entrance. He was almost there and ready to flee into the forest to make his escape, but he suddenly couldn’t run. He wasn’t hit by a blast of one of the creepy aliens’ weapons. His foot was stepping on his other shoe’s untied laces and as he lifted that foot up to take another step, it got snagged and he fell to the ground as a result.
Now it was Yoshster’s turn to scramble on the ground, but the Shroobs didn’t give him the chance. They surrounded him with their guns pointed at him. He looked up at them fearfully before one pulled the trigger and a paralyzing pain filled his body, causing him to collapse onto the ground once more. Unable to budge an inch after getting hit by that blast, Yoshster could feel them pick him up and carry him towards one of their ufos.
“Yoshi,” thought Yoshster as everything was getting dark. “Help me…” Yoshster fainted.
