We all know Shenzi Banzai and Ed fled the Outlands, most likely cause of Zira. (Along with abandoning their pups, assuming Lion Guard's hyenas are indeed their offspring)
So it's entirely possible that on their journey beyond their lands, they ended up at Timon and Pumbaa's old Oasis home. Also seeing as Timon's Ma, Uncle Max and the rest of the colony didn't think they'd be in danger of hyenas anymore. Pretty sure they didn't care to keep up digging. Thus our classic hyenas got a tasty meerkat snack easy
