I'm re-doing my Rym campaign setting for a new web page and thought I'd post a bunch of the concept art here.
These are Arcanar 'wands', which is to say salvaged scraps of Kuil technology dressed up in new luxury cases. These are from the Decider's personal collection, used in displays of power to the ignorant masses or for her frequent, frivolous summary executions.

You're right, it's pretty closer to a rail-shooter, though it spits sharpened magnetic wedges through mechanical (machine) action rather than using an explosive charge. The chambers along the underside hold stacks of the shot wedges, which are violently expelled the moment they're pushed up into the firing chamber. Different shapes for different occasions.
