Bloody hell I remember ages gone past when I was sixteen working a hell hole job to buy video games. Wasn't the smartest with my money, but I knew one thing; when I heard Pokemon was coming to the states, I pre-ordered red and blue. Immediately.
Twenty years later, I still get that same tingle when I start up a game, even if it's to continue an adventure, replay one from scratch or experience a totally(?) new entry to the series.

Oh wow, that IS a long time ago!! I don't know what it must have felt like to know the first Gen Pokemon games were coming, only the later games... how did it feel to pre-order a Pokemon game from way back then?
I mean sure, I pre-order the new games now, but... the very first games... wow...
I wonder how it feels to be a gamer, literally waiting for the first Pokemon games ever...
Oh, and seriously I get some SERIOUS nostalgia when I play the first Pokemon games I ever played... even listening to the music, it seriously digs right to the core!! ^^;;

I recall the quote of the cashier when the games arrived. It was before Electronic Boutique was intergrated fully with Gamestop.
"Yea, you were REALLY excited to pre-order those..." It was essentially a young adult talking to a high school nerd/geek/whatever the <censored> they call it now. I didn't care; I had my games and they had their money, they could fade into obscurity. A friend came over that weekend, he took red, I took blue since Blue had the mons I wanted (Gimmie my sandshrew dammit!). Hell, we had a link battle in the car while we took him to get his own games, and the fucker beat me for my bulbasaur. I went back on that bet. XD
It felt...comforting, strange that sounds. I've always loved games where I could raise or train critters, and given my first foray into it officially was the monster farm/rancher series on the original playstation (still have BOTH my original discs of 1 and two on PS1 along with 3 and 4 on PS2-need to get Evo someday), so the ability to have a game that was an RPG with a dedicated focus on it was a dream come true. Still remember reading "japan reports" in an old Nintendo Power and learning about Pocket Monsters, saying to myself "I. NEED. THIS."
First real time playing it was in the very early days of emulation. Game was in japanese, I couldn't even get past the first town since I didn't have a damned CLUE what was going on, being said, or where to go. Then the games were announced to the states, and I learned it from a video tape that Nintendo sent out about the series. Still have it too, almost watched it into the ground along with the star fox one.
Also saw the Pikachu-theme volkswagon beetle when it made a trip to a Toys R Us in a county about...an hour and a half drive from us. Begged family to take me, skipped school to go, didn't care at the time (again kids who may be reading this, sixteen you do not magically mature XD). Played Blue and finally knew what it was, got three T-shirts of various gen 1 pokemon in a cage with the phrase "GOT YA!" atop it. Wore the damn thing out.
So...yea, getting the physical games in my hands wasn't a religious experience, but at the time was damned close. And considering the history of the series and I goes much deeper than I've elaborated on here, welp...guess I'll be playing these things till the end of time.
Don't have the original copies anymore. Traded them into a game store in mint condition (box, case, instruction booklet were flawless) that a boss/now friend owned so someone could appreciate them more than I was. Don't regret it though. The memories stay a lot longer than the carts ever would.

I remember being laughed at a few years ago, because I found DVDs of a cartoon series I used to love when I was like... 3 or 4 years old.
Jokes on them, I reported it, and never saw her working there again. xD
I mean I wonder why any store would care how old you are and what the target age is for a cartoon? I mean, they get your money, so wouldn't that be all they should care about?
Told them at customer service I could easily just order the DVDs online, so if they were fine mocking customers, then I'd just spend my money elsewhere.
Of course, everyone else who worked at the store were not happy about the fact one of their staff mocked me.
Again though, she was gone after that, so joke's on her. :P
I also remember begging my parents to take me to one of the Pokemon movies at cinemas... I really, REALLY needed to see it, seeing I loved the anime and games especially, but they made me see another movie, since my parents assumed Pokemon was for "babies".
Eh. ._.
I remember when I first got Pokemon Black - I literally was screaming and jumping around the house like it was Christmas x10... xD
I still have all of my mainstream Pokemon games... I will never sell them. :3
