School Art Project - "Coming Home"
I suppose in a sense this could be considered vent art, but I don't want to label it as that.
I typically don't submit sketches/art-projects/traditional-art from myself, but this one kind of holds something special to me and I thought I'd share it along with the story behind it <3 (Btw this picture is over half my size, it's a big one. Also sorry if it isn't the best, traditional art isnt my best, nor is realistic themes lol)
This is a charcoal drawing for my "Drawing One" - class, the assignment was to draw a picture representing something special along with an object that holds value, such as a memory, thought or feeling.
For this assignment, I chose my Dad's hat. It is one of the only possessions I have left of him, and if you knew my dad, you knew he always wore a baseball cap. During the first month of my freshmen year of college, my dad passed away unexpectedly. Although it was painful and unreal, as any death is, it also felt as though he wasn't really gone.
What I mean by that is, my dad traveled a lot in his life time and was always ready for the next adventure to take him. And for me, after he passed, even now, I still feel as though he is on another road trip and I'm just waiting for him to come through the door and tell me he's back.
It may sound sad, but in reality, maybe it's better to think about it like that. That he isn't really gone, but off on another adventure that I simply can't join him on. <3
