Originally an art trade I did with Che Rigas Rossié (he drew fabulous dwarves and dark elves on my sketchbook). I liked it enough to take a photo before I return his own sketchbook back, and here we are.

Thank you for your kind words, my friends told me exactly the same thing about the colours and feel of the image!
The muzzle works as protective headgear on a lot of different things.
Besides adventuring, this character uses his experience on close combat (brawler class) at pits and arenas for a living, but generally tries to deal non-lethal hits on his opponents. Not because of some kind of strict martial etiquette or honour, he just hopes they act the same way towards him.
There is a second reason where he feels uncomfortable when talking to people that are not his race (almost everyone) and prefers to hide his mouth and teeth.
Wearing it is a decision he made, nobody really forces him to do so and when he is with the rest of the party, he does not mind removing it.

A kinda unorthodox one to be honest. I was not able to scan the lineart when I sketched those two and I had to to give out the original sketch (it was part of an art trade with a friend at a comicon). So I just took a photo with my phone and tried to save the bad quality by adjusting size, contrasts, brightness, sharpness and by adding filters (photoshop). Also added extra lines digitally with a pencil-like brush.
I think it came out nicely in the end, but I cannot describe the massive amounts of despair I felt at the start.
