Leokonis Information: Species by Onyxeva
Leokonis are large cats the size of African Lions, however in some cases they can grow to be about as big as a Liger. Both males and females are the same appearance-wise in that they both are the same size, sport long curved horns and have equally long fangs and spikes. Both participate in hunting and defending the pride. There is one leader in the pride which can be a male or female. This individual is 'voted' into their position through tests of strength and cunning. If they pass and the other pridemates see them suitable, then they are allowed to decide what the pride will do, such as where to hunt and what territory to defend.
A pride is made up of 4-18 individuals, of varying ages and of both males and females. A female can give birth to anywhere from 1-4 cubs. The entire pride will assist in raising the young to improve their chances of survival.
The Leokonis' horns are used both offensively and in grooming. Both males and females can be seen wrestling to determine their position in the pride. These jousts rarely lead to injury. When faced with an outside threat, the Leokonis will use a combination of horns, claws and teeth to drive or kill the offending party. The scales that reach from their shoulders down to the base of their tail offer some protection against teeth and claws.
