I've praised you in private for this, and I'd like to leave some of the same comments here:
I love this piece top-to-bottom; my favorite design elements of this drawing are the savage smile, the little hairs coming off the very ratty tail, the tousled whiskers, and your choice of pallet. However, I think what makes this piece one of my personal favorites is how well you captured some of Serenity's more intangible elements. Serenity is someone that is not pretty, but tries her best to be. It's very obvious underneath her hair and accessories and clothing that there is someone that could have been significantly different, given different choices.
