Oh, look, a rhyme... xP
I finally have a hand made silver chain, or rather a bracelet, to show you. I feel kind of odd uploading this, because I made it at work, but, yeah, no one's going to care >=3
We call this one the double "Rötelberg"-chain around here. The guy who invented it must have been called that or something.
Why pain, you ask?
Well, this chain absolutely doesn't work without soldering, no matter how thick the wire may be. The single links aren't closed all the way, but stuck into one another and then soldered together in groups of two. Every two links need to be soldered four times.
In this specific case the wire is 0.8mm thick. The chain as a whole is roughly 5mm thick. Not much room for anything there xD
Making it almost drove me crazy, but I still love the finished product. The round shape, the spiraling pattern and the way it looks so light and fragile while it's still quite large are just perfect. And it makes the most awesome jingling sound when you shake it. This is my absolute favourite type of chain! <3
I'm really lucky to have the chance to learn all this. It's rarely teached anymore, because these things don't sell.
If only I wasn't so slow at everything... I know I can be annoyingly lame and these things even take forever when someone fast does them... *grins*

Sweet!
I know what you mean about the soldering. I made a byzantine bracelet once (well started to, anyway), about the same gauge as this one, and decided to solder the links. For reasons unknown to me, the links shrank just enough after soldering that the chain wouldn't work. I still have most of the jump rings from that; I only got a few links into the soldering when we noticed what was happening.
And I still wanna make one of the suckers! I love the woven styles.

Thank you =3
Oh wow, that sounds horrible. So the whole project was ruined then?
Strange... I never heard of links shrinking from soldering. What material were you using then? Silver?
My problem was more like.... accidental soldering where the links were supposed to stay movable xD
