That's not quite right.
Actually, the Male and Female court for a few days, which triggers the female to produce nutrient pre-loaded eggs (minimizing need for the fathers body to provide anything but a suitable gestation environment). Then, when both are ready, the male inflates his pouch and the female deposits her, still unfertilized, eggs into him. It is within the males pouch that the eggs actually become fertilized by his sperm, and "Pregnancy" truly begins.
Afterward, once they are grown enough, it is indeed the Male who gives birth to the babies, whose entire gestation beginning with fertilization, began and ended in HIS pouch.
