yep I just got this one, but would ya believe it if I said I got it for free? Because I did :D the mayor is really good friends with our family and he collects stuff like this, when he found out I was collecting them he gave this monster to me. I'm so HAPPY!!!! :D :D :D It weighs like 80 pounds though and its a hassle to carry, but I loves it :3

I've not collected nor have i shown interest in them but heh if its pretty i typically try to get it. I'm one of those types of collectors who just collects what catches my eyes but now i'm starting to get into insulators thanks to you. hahaha
one more thing. all the guys insulators he had even had their original wiring still wrapped on them. i about shat myself when he told me it was the original electrical wiring.

Its an interesting hobby, but be warned once you start collecting and spend a good bit of oney on one insulator you find it not as hard to buy more expensive ones, I just buy the ones that appeal to me most it doesnt matter how rare they are or anything :P
And how I wish to find one that has the original wiring on it :D That is quite the collection he has there :D :D :D

if i ever see it again which saddly he was only at one license plate convention
group called NILPS Nevada International License Plate Society which has recently gone under so if i get lucky he might show up at ALPCA meets. American License Plate Collectors Association. if i do see it i will try to get a picture of it for yah seeing as theres a trip planned soon this year around spring or summer in 2010. hopefully sooner i hate waiting. hahah but yeah as you are to insulators i am to license plates. you also hold a good virtue to collecting. collect for its value to you not its value to someone else. also have you tried scanning along old country roads and such you'd be surprised how many you would find on the ground.

That would be great if you could get a picture for me :) I would love to see it, even if he isnt there just take some pictures of the convention I've never been to any kind of convention in my life :P Yeah I have looked everywhere to try and find a glass insulator but i just cant seem to turn any up, there is a creek I go to in town where i find old bottles but there are only shards of glass insulators there, if only I could find a whole one.
might i suggest learning a old treasure hunting method. learn to make dowsing angle rods and learn to use them. they can be creepy at how they work but i assure you they work!
heres how you make them.
take two old wire coat hangers and cut about 1" from the first corner o nthe long bottom end. any corner will do.
next cut again on the other side of the hanger where when you cut it will make a L shape with the cut wire. from there bend the short end so its nearly a 90 degree angle and repeat the same with the other hanger. you now have your dowsing rods. to learn how to use them is simple.
just follow this link. after that the dowsing rods work on a process of if you think about it you should find it. Picture a insulator in your head and follow the direction the rods point to. if they cross and form a x your at your destination. if they split and make a near perfect horizontal bar meaning the long ends are away from each other opposite of each others own direction that means your to far.

OH, I've seen those before on the T.V. where they do ghost hunts and stuff. I had no idea that they worked like that. It said that wicken people use them, i wanted to make some but was afraid to because the work wicken sounded creepy and curse like :O but I'll have to make some and try them out sometime when I'm down at the creek. :D
heh you have no idea how many time that stereotype has made people not even think about dowsing. dowsing is not ritualistic nor magic it is a form of mental concentration and focus. the rods just pick up on it and help you find what you seek.
a jesuit monk used a pendulum to do this over seas and across the world to help people.

Oh, ok that sounds much safer "phew" I had the crazy picture in my head of me walking around in the yard with those and just going up in a puff of smoke XD how funny. Anyways I'll make a pair of them and see how they work, I'll even go hide one of my insulators and try to find it with them. I so excited about it now :D
I dug around the archives for that convention i mentioned a long time agao and found they took a photo the guys display with the insulators on it.
