It's the Chocobros, now in dog-form! They are very good doggos who like nothing better than goofing around (when they're not out on monster-slaying jobs or...you know, saving Eos and all that).

This was a VERY VERY LAST MINUTE print I decided I needed to have done for Clovercon (which is this coming Sunday!). Although I am trying to get better with humans, and trying to avoid the whole "dog" thing (at least for a while), I knew I wasn't ready to do something with these boys in human form, so I did what I could. Hopefully by this time next year, I'll have some lovely human artwork of them.

They aren't meant to be any specific breeds, but Prompto I see in my head as some kind of collie mix (the way I usually draw him as a dog doesn't fit what I see in my head, but...I mean, that's kind of par for the course for artists...right?), Noctis is something like a shiba inu, but bigger, Ignis is some kind of shepherd*, and Gladio is some kind of massive Akita type thing.
*Ignis was originally something like a borzoi in my mind's eye, but that made him too much like my Egons, so I changed him.

This artwork took 22 hours or so, and about 5 of those hours was just spent tweaking little things! ...I usually avoid any more than two characters in one piece, but, I mean, with the Chocobros, it's like, all four or nothing, so I just kinda bit the bullet and dove in. This piece was extremely frustrating at times, but I learned a lot while doing it.

I drew a lot of inspiration from the Crisis Core artwork for the coloring style. It's not...quite like it, but it gave me some kind of direction. I knew my typical "thin lineart, cel-shading" kind of look would have taken WAY too long for all four of these boys, so I'm glad this worked out alright.

Please enjoy, and I promise one day I will draw these beautiful boys as their beautiful human selves, too! D; I HAVE SHIPPING DESIRES THAT NEED FULFILLING AND THE DOGGO VERSIONS JUST WON'T DO D:<

P.P.S The title is borrowed from the OST track of the same name. "Bros on the Road" is such a good song. "Bros on the Road II" makes me WEEP.
