He picked a plump Cynder, a character from the Legend of Spyro series (Since when did Spyro become a legend? >3>;;)
I've heard those games are actually really good, which is nice. There aren't enough awesome games lately staring... Not-overly-masculine-gruff-warriors

Aww, this is actually pretty cute. It's a nice change from the usual Cynder.
Your mileage may vary with the Legend of Spyro games. If you liked the games that came after the Insomniac trilogy, you'll possibly like these. If you really enjoyed the Insomniac ones, you'll want to throw your game system out a window by the time it's all done. :D

It's a good idea to play the franchise in order if you can. The original Insomniac trilogy is a good set of platformers, but it is a PS1 title, so don't expect amazing graphics. The order those should be played in are:
1. Spyro the Dragon
2. Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage (Gateway to Glimmer outside the US)
3. Spyro: Year of the Dragon
The next batch of games are mediocre at best. Don't play "Enter the Dragonfly" unless you just really want to see how bad a game can be. I don't recommend paying for that one. "Spyro: A Hero's Tail" is not much fun to play, but if you have a twisted sense of humor it has an odd charm to it just because it seems to be so intentionally bad.
If you're going to play the "Legend of Spyro" series, it should be played in order because this set (which is a franchise reboot) is actually one story spread out over three games. The order in which they should be played is:
1. A New Beginning
2. The Eternal Night
3. Dawn of the Dragon
Fans are mixed about the LoS series. I enjoyed it until the final game, but I was playing for the story and the last game just didn't do it for me. Gameplay wise, the LoS trilogy is mostly repetitive combat with some wonky platforming thrown in.
There are also several handheld Spyro games, most of which I've never played. I think the GameBoy had "Season of Ice", "Season of Flame", "Attack of the Rhynocs", and two games that were a Spyro/Crash Bandicoot crossover. On the DS, there's "Spyro: Shadow Legacy", which seems to be universally disliked, but I've never played it so I can't speak for that one. All of the LoS games are available on DS as well, and the first two have GameBoy counterparts.
So, really, it depends on what you look for in a game. If you like fun gameplay, platforming and puzzles, the Insomniac games are for you (and I happen to think the simple stories for that series are great). LoS appeals more to people who like something that looks like an epic story (think Lord of the Rings plus the new Star Wars trilogy and that's pretty much the storyline in a nutshell). LoS is a darker, less kid-friendly series and I think the only gameplay aspects that anyone ever really liked were the flying in the last game (though I felt that the bonus level in "Spyro the Dragon" had a better flight mechanic).
It's worth the money to find the collector's pack of the Insomniac Spyro trilogy (which is often on eBay for around $30). I don't recommend paying anything for "Enter the Dragonfly" and I wouldn't suggest paying more than $10 for "A Hero's Tail". The LoS games can be tricky to find, but you should be able to find "A New Beginning" for PS2 for around $20 at Wal-Mart.
...Damn, I play these too much. XD
