Y'know it's kinda funny, predictable really, things being different for the photographer. You see, I see this as an ordinary shot, even the red sunrise lighting from the fires up north. That's because I'm soaking in it of course. I just go down to the locks at sunrise, plant me arse on a good comfortable rock, and snap up to a thousand shots of the birds as they feed. It's a matter of a lot of patience and timing. What I really would have liked this morning would have been something like this with that lighting...

Now that would have been killer! Even getting the birds just as they're entering the water (I've got a few where they're like darts, just inches above the surface) or emerging like that isn't uncommon, but it's all got to come together for the spectacular. That's where that patience comes in again! Here's one that I like a lot because it captures something that I've never seen in any other shot... did you know they shake themselves like dogs when they come out of the water? Well maybe not all the time, but this one did.
