Umm... Yeah. This was the first version of (http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2735182/), which is in the main gallery and not the scraps like this one.
Let's start out with the most obvious difference: the bikini. As I was drawing the angel, it was sort of, in a back-of-the-mind sort of way, in my head that this angel would be bathed in nothing but light. But, as I was drawing, it quickly occurred to me that a naked female angel would be rather unseemly to the entire piece, so I quickly sketched on a bra and some panties. ... Yeah, that was pretty much the whole reason I threw this out and begrudgingly redid the angel with a wrinkly robe.
Second difference is the rabbit, and the shadows in its ears. Since the inspiration was a pair of wings that looked like rabbit ears, I wanted that conception directly mirrored into the piece. I think I took "mirrored" too literally, though; there isn't that much parallelism, and the shading looks off. So, when I redid it, I switched around the lighting.
But I also redid the rabbit's face. He looked like a toy bunny from this angle, what with his smooth skin, pink triangle nose, and beady eyes. So I gave him a slightly more "realistic" look in the revised version.
Next difference is the fire background. I wanted an aura around the angel, similar to how saints get depicted on stained-glass windows. More specifically, I wanted it clear that this angel was supernatural, and not just some skimpy chick with hawk wings coming from her back. I kinda like the coloring of the background; it makes it look like she's emerging from a holy portal. Sorta like... a prostitute.
Yeah, now this image makes sense. This is some allegorical deconstruction of the conflict between childhood ideals (represented by the toy rabbit), adult desires (represented by the bikini), and a devotion to God that encapsulates and draws together the other two (represented by the angel). This is all a coming-of-age story!
... Yeah, I'm still happy I redid it.
