Traditional Style Dance Bustle
I made this earlier in 2004, when I had a strong pull to 'make my wings'. Wings are a powerful symbol to me, one that shows my ties to my corvid totem. This is a bustle - meant to be worn while dancing. Each feather is individually wrapped and has a leather button and horsehair tassle at the end. All the feathers are tied together and secured to a cloth-covered wooden backboard that allows them to take the shape of outspread wings and to move as the wearer moves. It was a project that meant a lot to me, and I am proud to have these wings in my home.
