Fronk (Experimental)
And experimental artwork of Fronk-the-donkicorn
Apparently, FA forces transparent images to have black backgrounds >:U so I've gone through the effort of making the background of this and my Catch Me if You Can picture the same color as FA's beta skin.
I had a blast doing this, although it took some time to figure out what I wanted to draw Fronk doing. I don't watch MLP, so I wasn't quite sure what unicorns can do, but I've seen plenty of examples of them making things float. And according to this character's reference sheet, he likes apples, so floating apples it is!
I used this to tet out a few things, but the biggest focus was cell-shading. I've never done it before now, mostly because the other times I tried I couldn't make it look nice. This time I think I've managed it pretty well, I might try it out in the future. The second big thing was working out just how I was going to pull off MLP characters in the future because it's pretty much unavoidable at this point. I honestly despise Lauren Faust's' style and I'll gladly admit that's what's been keeping me from watching the show, which from what I have seen of it, would be an interesting watch. When it comes to fanart, Loppidity's style is my favorite, mostly because it's stylized, but not to the degree of making the viewer question whether or not they're looking at an equine. This is somewhat inspired by their work but I've tried not to outright copy it. I also tried painting some grass, which I have to say looks great, however, I don't think it fits well in this case. But hey, now I know I can paint grass so that's nice.
