I was asked to design a card for the Sixth Extinction Card Deck, of the Haast's Eagle. Haast's Eagles lived in New Zealand and went extinct in the 15th century, right around the time one of their favorite prey birds - the Moa - also went extinct. These massive eagles were 1/3 larger than even the largest raptor alive today, and had the strength and size to take down a 500 lb Moa. Sadly, they were hunted to extinction.
There's no visual record of the Haast's Eagle's plumage, so I tried to imagine what it might look like.
Though the Kickstarter is over, these card decks will be available at Anthrocon! They feature art from many awesome artists.
Watercolor on soft-press Fabriano, about 7.3 X 10.8 inches.

That's an absolutely gorgeous rendering of a Haast's Eagle, but then I'd expect nothing less from you.
The more art I see from that deck the happier I am that threw some $ at the Kickstarter.
( Apropro of nothing: I can't look at a picture of a Haast's Eagle and not think of Marahute from Rescuers Down Under. Her design was essentially a Jumbo Economy Sized Haast's Eagle).
