Among the fauns, where druidism, mysticism, philosophy and hedonism are all part of one culture, the Banquet is a customary event for a community to join together and share in the vast bounty that nature provides. With music, dancing, love-making and feasting, it is a relaxing experience intended to bring one close to the source of good which brings happiness to all sentient creatures. A simple tune composed by the famous faun known as Alotan in his youth, the song of A Faun's Banquet is known throughout the land, and often requested as a melodic backing to banquets, feasts, carnivals and other events.
This selection is a somewhat more complex, slightly more measured tune produced by human musicians along with Alotan during one of his tours into more northern lands. With a more fixed tempo, it nevertheless deals with a lack of sheet music, as Alotan's music is predominantly performed by ear, and requires musicians to improvise while keeping pace with their fellow performers.
A piece I also composed and recorded in 2009, I'm sharing it for the first time here, thanks to the fantasy project I'm working on, and thanks to people like you who are part of the artist community. I hope you enjoy it!

All done on my Yamaha piano actually! I use WavePad as my sound editor, played the song five times in a row, each time playing the song with a different digital instrument on the piano, and with each recording overlapping the first. So it was log drum, then harp, then pan flute, then regular flute, etcetera, all saved into one .mp3!
*The character Alotan is kind of a tribute to myself in that way; I can't read sheet music or nothin'. I had a lesson or two from a church organist, but for about ten years afterwards I just learned how to play by ear. Now pretty much everything I do is improv, including songs like this.

Man...buddy, you brightened my day in an astonishing way. So glad to hear that you came back and still enjoy this piece. I hope it keeps giving positive feelings to you and others—at least, the few others who have listened, haha.
Music is something I'd like to record a lot more, but for convenience sake that's often difficult. But I sincerely hope that I can put out some more stuff that folks can get a bit of pleasure from.
Sorry to hear about the pan pipes, but even when a project is finished, it's still a work in progress! So keep it up, you'll get something together for sure.
