Australia. it is illegal to rehome pitbulls here. if they end up in a shelter, they are killed.

No I haven't, but a friend told me that if you don't train them as puppies, their strength and bite can really be a problem.

I've known that fact about cockers too, some of them are real little bastards. I suppose because I live near a poor ghetto community who raise their pits to attack people, I'm a bit biased and afraid of them. I can't honestly say I hate any dog breed though, because as soon as I meet someone with a dog of any breed, I fall in love with it.

Pits were bred to be dog aggressive - but NEVER people aggressive. Of course, all terriers have issues with dog aggression (Pit Bulls are "American Pit Bull Terriers") but, like herding nipping in a corgi, it can be trained out of them fairly easily, In the early 1900s pits were trusted with children and were the number one family dog (the lab of the time). Their loyalty was taken advantage in the coming years and now they are the media's favorite pooch to report about. Even if the dog who attacked someone wasn't a pit - they'll sure as hell try to pass it off as one - or not mention the breed at all.

Dog aggression and human aggression are two very different things. Pitbulls have more a tendency to be DA then other breeds, but NOT HA. Infact, they are known to be far more gentle and docile with people then retrievers.

And they are no harder to train then any other breed, it's just people are fucking dumb and don't want to put the effort in.

as a pitbull owner... this really upsets me. People have tried to put down my dog a multitude of times already, calling the cops and making up fake stories.. it's a real headache and angering that they judge by breed. I can promise them that their golden labs are twice as vicious as my pitbull would ever be.

It sickens me a great deal when people don't treat a non-human animal the same as they would a human-animal just because they assume and know they are not as intelligent. Yet it's a terrible offense to even mercy kill a human, even if they want to be killed. I remember this one case where a woman had to care for her Husband who had contracted Huntington's disease (It's a hereditary disease) until the Husband died. She later found out her two sons, who were in their mid 30's had also begun to show symptoms of Huntington's disease. The two son's were admitted to a hospital where the mother would frequently visit them. The son's had seen what their father had gone through and didn't want to have to suffer the same way, so they begged (The two sons were crying) their mother to put them out of their misery (There is no cure for the disease, and while not fatal. The lack of coordination and a myriad of other traits brought on by the disease, usually end up resulting in the slow, painful, and eventual death of the afflicted.) Anyways back to the story, obviosuly the mother loves her children loves them very much and does not want to see them suffer. So on her next visit she brings a gun and shoots them both dead as per their request. (Clean shot to the head) So what happens the mother is arrested and sentenced to life in prison (Fourtnately the case was ruled as second degree murder I think, and she ended up having to serve about 25 years. She got out in 5 on parole for good behavior. Granted my recollection of the event may not be entirely accurate but it will still help to prove my point.) But seriously WTF?! It's illegal to put down a human who ASKED to be killed (Let's not forget it was even in the two sons' wills to be terminated should they suffer from such a disease), but not a non-human animal who has done NOTHING wrong other than being of a certain breed?! (Hell it's even advised to put a sick and suffering non-human animal down) That's just......fucked up. Also yay wall of text lol

As the owner and admired of Pit Bulls this just breaks my heart. Did you hear that in 2005 the city of Denver decided to enforce it's city wide pit bull ban by going to the house of registered Pit Bulls (so in other words, people who actually bought rabies tags and registration for their dogs, you know, responsible owners) and confiscating the dogs from their owners? Most owners fought the police in tears, and most of the dogs were so friendly they went with the police without a struggle. They were later all brought to the shelter and put to sleep.

Then people wonder why my pit bull is registered as a "boxer" everywhere...
