Its a combination of Horse and Gryphon that they are.
The sea horse part is whats confusing. Originally there from land. They where lucky to survive from the storm king. Its probably just a mystical artifact that makes them transform to live into the sea...

I figured it out. It's catfish. I have NO plans on going to the ocean any time soon!
