Another very cool piece of presentation here! We've talked a little in the past about how I've come to like your 'postcard' style scenes and images? Beyond the composition of the piece itself, I really like your use of the black bars, your cool new signature, and the mixture of typography for English and the Space Raptor language! It looks really professional, and it adds just a little more to these scenes and to your identity as an artist!
And of course, the scene itself, the way it's composed, is very striking indeed! I think you tied together all the elements quite nicely in a way that looks 'busy' without being too crowded. There's a lot of action going on with the aircraft advance and it does a good job of making this look like some important fellow, boots on the ground, in the middle of a friendly air-raid! Objectivity aside, it just looks damn cool too, hah!
Same for the colours! Along with being very identifiably 'space raptor'-esque aesthetic of it all, I think you've done a good job of having a lot of subtle colour variance in the clothes and armour and equipment and machines, so none of the individual elements get lost in there. It ALSO then works nicely with the highlights such as the aircraft cockpit lights, this main character's face and eyes, and the striking red sun! Sort of the same kind of thing you had going on in "warehouse gig", on a slightly more varied scale.
Finally, a little special mention to the smoke effects here! It's something you use a decent amount, but I can see definite improvement in your way of depicting it as you get more experienced. As weird as it sounds to say, this is some of your best smoke yet!
...even if you are using it to cheat on the background :P. Honestly though, not sure what else you could have thrown in there. It looks like this fella is in a sort of no-man's land of barbed wire and cratered terrain, so I doubt there'd be all that much to look at anyway? It sort of has that nice 'layered' aesthetic too, that I commented on in "Monuments".
Onto design, and I think this is a very cool expansion of what we've seen already for Simulacrum! A display of military might isn't something we've really seen much before, so these heavy lift aircraft and the mechs they're supporting are an exciting new thing! I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to see them again, as they look a fair bit different from the ones we've seen before in "Vietnam".
As for the character themselves... hah, well, it's another kind of cool expansion on what we've seen before. Some familiar elements with the colour, or with the heavy coat and the chest rig, but the fancy cape and the breather helmet are some sweet little additional touches! I almost get the sense that field commanders get those cool capes so others know to follow that billowing fabric, sensibilities be damned, heh. And then the helmet... t'was also mentioned that it wouldn't entirely seal... but I admit, until I read that, I thought this was more supposed to be like a... breathing support apparatus more than a fully sealed unit? For keeping smoke and dust out of your lungs and eyes, even if the normal air IS breathable?
Well whatever the case may be, I'm ALWAYS a fan of funky helmet designs for anthros, and in recent years, ESPECIALLY ones that are big ol' visors like these!
Finally, some praise for the little details you've thrown in here! I really like the light reflection and minor scratches on the helmet! Same goes for the glowing sunlight reflecting off of the dust and clouds in the air! Some neat little details for sure! It's a small thing, but the shadowy barbed wire is a neat little touch too, tying into my thoughts earlier about a 'sci-fi field commander advancing through bombed out terrain whilst a friendly air-raid flies over head'. It's a cool little way to make this seem very 'war-like' without being too implicit in any one deet!
And hey! You said I might dig the music, and... well, after briefly being shocked 'cause my volume was set way too high, I started to get into it! I think you already know I quite like HEALTH from previous talk!
I always like getting to listen to your musical 'fuel' for these art pieces. Even if my brain is clearly wired rather different from yours since I rarely get exactly the same image. Now, that being said, with the lyrics... I actually almost started thinking of some weird kind of 'chest-pounding' morale boost thing these Space Raptors are doing... getting worked up to loud, abrasive music and hardening themselves with words of denial and such? Like a weird reverse-psychology mantra, hah!
Ummmm... yeah! I think that's everything I wanted to say about the art! Well, besides the fact it's just generally awesome and might be my new favourite Simulacrum piece of yours! Great work, Lolzdude!
