A North looking view from Eagle Peak (as a kid it was known as Squaw Rock) of Highway 89 from the West shore of Lake Tahoe.
For YEARS I've driven by this cliff on the way to our family cabin on the west shore. For YEARS I've wanted to climb this thing (and a few years back it was evidently privately owned).
My brother and I finally hiked up here on August 18th. What a view!! To the left, outside the field of view (and hidden by trees) is the old Kaiser Estate. If you're a fan of "The Godfather" that's the Tahoe estate used in the movie.

It's actually the top of an old volcanic vent; many volcanoes sprouted up in this entire basin hundreds of thousands of years ago (part of the Cascade range volcanoes).
If you ever take the tram or hike to High Camp in Squaw Valley, you can see the Cinder Cone volcano remnants along the mountain tops leading from Tahoe City to Truckee, California.

As a kid we had family friends that ran a lodge on the California side......There are times when I wonder if even so much as the buildings are standing.
It was less than a mile from the lake and walking distance from what was then the village.....
It was called "Woodvista Lodge" and was owned by the Streeper family....
I spent Easters and summers there until I was about 13.
Any thoughts?

Yes, it should still be there; Woodvista Lodge is located in Kings Beach, on the North side of the lake. It's on the way to Crystal Bay and the Casino's on the California/Nevada boarder on the lake.
I don't know if your family friends still own it, or if it's been sold to others, but it was there when I drove by this summer.
BTW, I'm not in Tahoe at the moment, but I'm heading back today for a few more days. I will not be on-line after 4:30 PM.

Sorry I didn't get back to you earlier, but I didn't take the computer with me this weekend.
It's possible it is out of business. It's not uncommon for some of these business' to still have their sign's up even when they're shut down; the Black Bear Tavern, near Sunnyside is like that (it's been out of business for three years now).
I assume there's no "new" number; a new number would have been announced over the phone.
Well, that's a rough area now, and with the economy too, I'm not surprised that they may be closed down. In fact, last week the police and ICE busted a group of Meth groups and some illegal aliens in that general area.
