Frankfurt just opended a mostly reconstructed part of its historic city center between the cathedral and the city hall square (Römerberg) to the public. The historic city center (Altstadt) of Frankfurt was destroyed in 1944 by allied bombing terror raids, like many, many other german cities. This reconstruction gives the city a part of its soul back. Many critics called this project a "Disneyland" for tourists, but its not what it is supposed to be. The buildings will couse apartments and normal shops insted of tourist crap. I personally think its one of the best urban repair projects of the last years.
Reconstuction of the "Haus zum Rebstock" - "House at the vine stock". The original of this building was used by merchants for the annual trade fail in the middle ages. Basically this is where Frankfurts history as an international trade fair city originates.
