Looking at some of your work, my recommendation is to practice anatomy. In 3D muzzles are -SO- difficult to get right, I've discovered, and while I have done 3D for years and I am currently learning 3D animation at university, I know there is still a lot more to learn. It works the same way as it does with drawing; find references and base your anatomy off of those, and then stylize it.
Fur, too, is really tricky to get right. One of the things you should remember is that animals tend to have shorter or no fur at all immediately around their eyes, so that's another consideration.
Just keep at it with a mindset for improving, and you will get better!

Thanks ^^ I've only just recently started 3D of this kind. Never did animations or anatomy much before.
And yeah, my fur gets better each time. As long as I'm improving I'm happy. I really do need to work on fur around the eyes though you're right.
Always happy to have constructive criticism!

Judging by the look of the muzzle in the top-left shot, I think he modeled the bottom in a separate subtool (for those not familiar with ZBrush, think of this like layers in Photoshop. You can work on one bit of the model without affecting anything else), rotated it, and then adjusted the position of the tongue for the maw shot.
Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. I oughta try doing that myself; guess I can always merge the two subtools later when I'm happy with the result. It would also make it easier for me to examine the looks of both a closed and open mouth (tho you have to stick with an open mouth after using dynamesh or else it merges the top and bottom halves, unless there's a setting I'm not familiar with).
But ye, this is fantastic work. I can't wait to see what other models you make. *w*
