You wouldn't think a library of all places for a robot to be in, especially with the internet being a thing. Yet Rita finds books to be an intriguing aspect to her. Something...human about them. Plus, books have a better credibility than the internet (*usually). Not to mention they have their advantages, like portability, and don't have to be "charged". Though it must be said that there's a psychological aspect to book reading for her, above all else. That is to say, Rita "feels" human reading books, scanning the words and letters, and practically "downloading" the books into her internal memory. Though that being said, there are times she'll do it the quick way by scanning each page as a whole, and be able to process everything all at once, if not saved for later.
Though, despite having an interest in books, Rita isn't a bookworm. It's pretty rare for her to read for the sake of enjoyment. She probably only owns a handful of books, with one or two of them she actually likes to read, and the rest for "decoration".
I originally made this render as part of her coloration series. In this case it was brown, for intrigue. But the coloration didn't work out very well, and at best it was an orange color. But I already had everything set up, so I went with it as a "regular" render. To be honest, I'm having second thoughts over how her colors work... ^-^;
Incidentally, I'm also trying a style of sorts where everything has a rather soft and matted look, with little/minimal gloss shown, as well as more simplistic lighting. This is a desperate attempt to have actually have good looking renders that're pleasing to the eyes. It's an attempt that intimidates, since what's "pleasing to the eye" is very subjective. Still, I felt like I've reached a point where I can "move on" to another aspect of CGI. In this case, aesthetics.
I initially tried for a realistic when I got into the Cycles Engine. But it felt like that was working against me. So, taking inspiration of various CG cartoons I've seen, I'm going to try a more softer look and see where this will lead me.
