Couple o decades ago there was no gear at all, and levels of casualities was lower.

I say, morons are just morons, in gear or not.

The two biggest reports suggest that half the time alcohol is involved and the majority of fatalities could have been prevented if a helmet and other safety gear had been worn. Also-a lot more people are riding motorcycles as motorcycles have gone mainstream since the 70's and 80's. Of course accident rates are going to significantly increase. That doesn't mean no gear is better. It means more people need to stop drinking and driving and wear their fucking helmets and safety gear. Sure-idiots are idiots. That means it's even more important to depict riders wearing safety gear.

You said it: they should stop drinking. Safety gear is definately better, when you have an accident. Thing number one is to depict riders prevent accidents, by learning to ride properly and treat each other with respect on the road. Batman costume woun't safe a moron from cement truck. Same as hawaii shirt woun't hurt experienced rider.

In short words, safe gear is for safety-alright, but it doesn't reliefs one from social responseability.
