He is based on Eric Marsh, one of the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots who died in the Yarnell Hill Fire on June 30, 2013. I recently watched the 2017 movie Only the Brave, about the Hotshots. I was so moved by it I just had to make a tribute character. It's a really good movie, despite the ending. I highly recommend it, if you haven't seen it yet. It's now one of my favorite movies.
