A very, VERY well done picture of my secondary sona, Yearum, a Praimortis (based loosely on a kangaroo) working on his profession.
Yearum, as some may remember, is unable to use magic in the normal sense. The whites you see on his hands are actually not natural, but a curse. If any magic comes into contact with that part of his body, it will be absorbed ad pure mana with next to no magical damage caused, but doing so would cause Yearum to go into an uncontrolled berserker’s rage, the curse manifesting a bit more and taking over his body for a brief time. Once the time has passed, very likely everything around Yearum would have been well destroyed, unless of course a being of great power was there to stop him. Needless to say, he doesn’t want that to happen, so he usually wears fireproof gloves with a belt strap at the ends of them so he can tighten them on his arms for a safety measure.
But it is because of this curse, on top of his species not being efficient or capable of using magic in the first place that led him to try his hands at the closest thing he could do to performing magic, Alchemy. For years he has trained in this craft, understood materials, processes, and mixes to the point where he has become a young master, purely by self-learning and through practice.
Ever since an incident where he’s had to leave his hope in a sort of self exile after his curse triggered near his home town, he had eventually settled down in a shop owned by him. It was expensive at first, but with him being one that was highly skilled in alchemy, as well as a decent bit skilled in smithing and crafting weapons, he eventually was able to get a steady enough income to balance the expenses of obtaining the shop and living, so long as he kept his work up. Eventually this shop would come to be known as “Creature’s Comforts”, a place where aspiring adventurers, old and new, as well as genreal people can come and browse Yearum’s wares.
The front of the shop of course is neat, tidy, and organized. Weapons having wooden stands on walls and in cases so that people may browse at their leisure, and potions are all sorted neatly by type and tier over behind the shopping counter, where only Yearum would be able to access them. Of course, he can brew a potion with a sort of mini kit he has in shop, and it could be a fun show for those interested in how he makes his potions from scratch ingredients, but when it comes to much larger doses, or even personal experimentation... he needs his cauldron~
The thing about Yearum’s shop is that it is also where he lives. He didn’t have much money going into this new town, so he needed to take what he could get. His room is in the back of the shop. No windows, few lights, but he didn’t mind one bit. It’s where he slept, ate, and it was the only place where he could be found not wearing his gloves, as seen in this picture. The cauldron is used, as mentioned before, for brewing large batches of common potions. Healing, mana regeneration, various cures, poisons, and various other favorites he has noted throughout the years~ Potions don’t expire that quickly, so having an excess is almost never a bad thing.
Otherwise, he may try his hand at experimental brews. Possibilities for stamina potions to reduce the feeling of fatigue and giving one an overwhelming boost in strength and resilience all in one mix could be a godsend for an aspiring alchemist. He has had a good many duds, or scrap potions, but eventually he believes that despite his situation, he too can become successful, and all without the use of magic.. rather with the power of science, he may be able to shape this world with the palms of his hands, hands that are themselves cursed by the magic bound to this world.

I had never really been able to give much of a true insight into Yearum’s character, outside what his ref sheet may tell you, but perhaps this will offer a lot more for people to think about. He’s got a shop, alchemy and a bit of smithing is actually a profession he lives off of (beside adventuring when he either needs to of feels like it) and of course a bit of backstory, concerning his curse. I could write more for him, and I very well likely may~ possibly about the specific chapter of his life that causes him to self-exile himself from his home town, but that will have to be determined on a later date once I get some other projects done~
Addressing the picture itself, I love it to no end~ I never had anything outside small nods in his ref sheet that clearly showed Yearum working on his craft, so when I heard that
Totodice1 and
Overgrown_Lizards had won a YCH that featured an alchemist working in this setting and that he wanted Yearum to feature in it, my mind went off like fireworks~ I can not thank them enough for such a wonderful gift, I am truely thankful~ <3
The details are great, from the body structure, even the couldrin, and all the background features, it all would be things included in Yearum’s room (yes, even the skull. You never know what things you may need to make a brew~)
Of course, the artist of this wonderful picture,
BlackSunDi, did a grand job~ I wish to also offer my defense thanks for lending your tallent, and giving us the opportnity to have something like this. Keep up the great work~ And for others seeing this, go give him a watch, his content is really good.
And last mention, The praimortis species is an original species belonging to
Blitzdrachin Whom I also recommend those reading this to watch as well for her own works~
But it looks like tonight may be quite a night~ back to brewing.
