Holly Barnett, from the Black and Silver story in her hussar's uniform with her mount.
The first chapter in the story was finished as a text story years ago, but there was never enough interest in a story about an all female 19th century cavalry unit to ever finish the rather long tale in its entirety.
Holly was my favorite character, but would not have appeared til at least chapter three.
(The mount is called a Charger, and is a species of warm blooded and furred reptile.)

Well, the first chapter was written so that it forms a finished story in itself.
many folks have been surprised to find out more was planned; they said the story was nice, but apparently felt no real desire for sequels.
I think the main issue was that it was written during the height of my love affair with the mid 19th century, and was simply too obscure a subject matter for them to get into.

Hm, dragoon uniform could be similar to normal cavalry, or quite different depending on which country and time period you are talking about.
Napoleonic french dragoons wore a helmet similar to a cuirraisser, usually over the knee boots and a tailcoat or Habit Long.
The dragoon was a mounted infantryman rather than true cavalry; using horses to get quickly to a strategic location such as a crossroads before dismounting and holding the ground as foot soldiers.
I have drawn a fair number of the french dragoons, because I was working on a uniform impression of that type for several years.
Not sure if I can find any of the pics I drew though- a LOT of the older black and white originals simply do not exist anymore.
(Moving can destroy more art than a fire, if you are not careful in the process.)

I know that's how they started out, although in England it looks like they became a kind of cavalry. I only ask because I have been getting some weird thoughts as of late about characters that are loosely based on the video game FFVII or more specifically the movie based on the game called Advent Children. I just have this idea of a Steam Punk dragoon who uses a motorcycle to get where he is needed, dismounts and then holds the line as best he with pistol, rifle(or carbine) and a bastard sword. So I am interested in how others have done it in the past just to get an idea as to what has been done and what I should not be copying when I am describing things. And especially when I am commissioning artists.
Indeed.
My inspiration for the entire story was drawn from several sources, but the real world German hussars of the 19th century were a large factor.
My uniform designs changed over time- starting out with a more Napoleonic era style with the heavy braiding over the entire chest, and eventually to the later century pattern with frogging instead.
The entire project met with an almost complete lack of interest in the furry community, and I eventually shelved the project indefinitely.
