I....don't know. I don't know how it came about. Here I was, minding my own business, watching the typical stuff on Youtube. And then suddenly, my suggestion bar pops up a My Little Pony clip. My Little Pony, a show I try to avoid like the plague. That I have absolutely NO interest in. Yes, I'm the kind of person that if I see a flamboyant Brony walk by, I'd have a confused expression on my face.
I don't even remember why I clicked on that video. Maybe because I'd never seen a punk-rock pony before. And then I'm watching a clip of the end scene of the movie, being introduced to a "Songbird Serenade". And the resulting song....that song drove me absolutely freaking INSANE. HOW is a song like this in a KIDS' movie? The only words I understood were a few words in the beginning, and the first sentence of the chorus. The rest was a jumble of humming and an accent so muddled that I wondered if this was even real. I literally sat there and watched that clip a DOZEN times, trying to figure out what the lyrics were. Barely even paid attention to the "plot" ending that pretty much told me what the entire movie had been about, and the pink pony's final minor aneurysm.
Yes, I did finally google the lyrics. And I wasn't even half right with the guesses I had from the dozen or so viewings. I closed the video and tried to forget it. But over a few days afterward, I kept going back and watching it again. I slowly had to come to the realization that the song was catchy. Amazingly so. I LIKE this song. No, I have no idea who Sia is, had never heard of her before I looked up the specifics of this song. To this day I remain surprised that such a song wound up so prominent in a kid movie. Maybe it's a new thing? Zootopia did the same thing with Shakira, maybe this is the new trend.
Well...this came of it. I now have a Pony I like. And although none of my characters really fit in a setting, my rainbow collie dog Prysm was the only choice. Because she's got rainbow markings. And I know Songbird Serenade isn't 100% accurate. There's no way I was going to draw her mane and tail as accurately as she is normally depicted. Half-assed is the best I got. But overall, this is definitely one of the best fan-drawings I've ever done. Not to mention the best drawing of Prysm I've ever spat out.
The background is a screenshot of the TV show I took from Google. So I claim no credit for it. Boxed it off so I didn't have to depend so much on a screenshot to set the scene. I only do that with WoW screenshots.
