This is a character from a story universe concept a few friends and I are fleshing out. Maybe you'll see more of this, maybe not - I'm not in charge of the project.
In the late 2030s, armies of creatures from another world suddenly begin appearing in random places with no warning. First they hit Chicago, and after three days of hard fighting their portal was destroyed and the armies wiped out. But they can strike again at any time.
But humanity has weapons in their arsenal they haven;t known about for centuries.
This is United States Army Corporal Tobias Steele - Medal of Honor nominee. During a live-fire exercise after the aforementioned attack on Chicago, another force of the hostile being appeared. Being in the middle of a live-fire exercise made fighting them off a trifle, but during the battle the sheer power they have was shown when some of the monsters managed to flip over a pair of tanks. Despite orders to hold back, Corporal Steele charged in alone to extract the tank crews - outing himself as a werewolf to do so. Though he couldn't flip the tanks back over, he was able to move them enough for the crews to slip out, then hold off no less than 50 enemy combatants -sometimes in hand-to-hand combat- until fire support was able to cover their retreat.
This was not the debut of werewolves to the public eye - during the attack on Chicago a private corporate security force deployed to assist, amongst which were numerous werewolves. Outing oneself at this time, however, was not necessarily a safe idea as public opinion was still very divided on the revelation of werewolves being real. Nonetheless, Corporal Steele's willingness to do so impressed many(though not his CO who tried to have him court-martialed, but was overruled), and even more were impressed by his bravery in saving the tank crews, leading to a nomination to receive the Medal of Honor. Unfortunately due to the sometimes less than positive attitudes towards lycanthropes -just as prevalent in the military as among the general public- most do not expect he will be awarded it.
That Medal of Honor may be no guarantee, but his actions have led him to be picked to help organize the first werewolf-centric Special Forces unit in the world. A task he is all too happy to undertake.
